Scent for fun description
What we do in Scent for Fun. Select the Tabs below to find out more.
To be able to teach dogs - like kids a certain level of control is needed to be able to shape the behaviours required. We use a mixture of both control halters, food and voice and touch to achieve this. Food is for shaping only and only at certain times. If your dog has not done a puppy school and learnt the basics then please let the trainer know so we can show you how to shape the appropriate behaviours with food first.
For most dog parents few realise the implications of not doing early intervention and teaching young. By the time they realise there is an issue the behaviour and corresponding neural connection are established and will take time to undo. It can also be traumatic if they have a strong dog or have been given the wrong advice.
Our Scent for Fun is designed to teach you how to build communication and positive engagement with your dog. A game setup is done by our trainer and then scent is hidden in the game field. Your dog then needs to find it unaided. There are different levels depending on your dog's ability as they learn to master a huge variety of objects and how to traverse them to find the yummy scent. This builds confidence in the dog as it realizes that it can do things it didn't think it could. This also then teaches you how to do it at hope to exhaust your dog's brain because they have worked it.
